Uzbekistan to invest almost US$7bn to infrastructure development in 2011-2015
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan plans to invest US$6.935 billion to development of infrastructure, transport and communication construction in 2011-2015.

As earlier reported, in December 2010, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved a programme on speeding up development of infrastructure, transport and communication construction for 2011-2015.

Uzbekistan plans to direct $3.394 billion to development of automobile transport system, US$1.594 billion to railway transport system, US$658.8 million to air transport, US$1.263 billion to telecommunication and engineer-communication infrastructure and $24.9 million to modernization of public transport fleet.

In particular, Uzbekistan plans to construct and reconstruct 2,306 km of automobile roads of the Uzbek national highway and 1,030 km of railroads.

The programme also includes projects on modernization of automobile fleets of intermodal logistic centers and development of roadside infrastructure and services alongside the Uzbek national highway.

Uzbekistan plans to attract US$3.235 billion of foreign investments to implementation of project and allocate US$1.934 billion from state budget and targeted state funds. Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan will issue US$461.1 million. Enterprises, participating in the project implementation, will invest US$1.304 million from own resources.

Uzbek President also exempted equipment, raw materials, spare parts, technological documentation and others, which are not produced in Uzbekistan and imported within investment projects of the programme, from customs payments (except custom registration fees) till 1 January 2016.
