Uzbekistan to increase production of textile goods
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The government of Uzbekistan approved measures on further development and modernization of textile industry’s enterprises and expansion of production of domestic non-food products for 2009-2011.

Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev signed on 20 August 2009 a corresponding resolution to approve target parameters of non-food goods production in 2009-2012 and list of investment projects on modernization and re-equipment of textile enterprises.

The resolution set some requirements to investment projects. In particular, the document said that all projects should be realized in timely manner and the clothing-knitted garments enterprises should ensure load of capacity at least by 70% and spinning enterprises - 85% during five years. The enterprises should also export at least 70% of products.

The document also approved list of components, spare parts and raw materials, which are not produced in Uzbekistan and imported by the enterprises. The resolution said import of these products will be exempted from customs duties. In line with the document, Uzbekistan will increase production of ready fabrics by 2.9 times in 2009-2011 to 182.6 million square meters, ready-made garments by 2.5 times to 32.3 million units and knitwork by 1.2 times to 40.4 million units.

The country plans to increase legwear output by four times in the reporting period to 43.7 million pairs.
