Uzbekistan to improve election legislation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Information service of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (lower house of parliament) in cooperation with the Committee of the lower house of parliament on democratic institutes, non-governmental organizations and citizens’ self-governing bodies held a briefing “Ensuring freedom of election and further improving election legislation” on 31 October 2012.

It was noted that a draft law "On introduction of changes and amendments to laws "On elections to Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan" and "On elections to regional, district and city Councils of People's Deputies" was submitted to the parliament for consideration. The law is directed at further deepening democratic reforms and forming civil society in Uzbekistan.

A group of MPs from Milliy Tiklanish Party submitted the document as legislative initiative. Special group was created under the Committee of the lower house of parliament on democratic institutes, non-governmental organizations and citizens’ self-governing bodies to prepare the law for consideration of the parliament. The group collected proposals and recommendations from various stakeholders to improve the legislation.

The draft document was also discussed at the session of factions and MPs’ Group of Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan. Over 300 proposals were received to improve the document and they reflected in the draft law.

The draft law was also placed at official website of Legislative Chamber and some 4,000 citizens had chance to familiarize with the document and shares their view on it.
