Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) announced the holding of the 9th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Samarkand in September 2024.
A ceremony was held in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt) to mark the conclusion of the 2023 AIIB Annual Meeting and the transfer of powers to the host country of the 2024 AIIB Annual Meeting.
Laziz Kudratov, Governor of the AIIB for the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the AIIB and host of the AIIB Annual Meeting 2024 in Uzbekistan, in a ceremony accepted the gavel from Dr. Mohammed Maiit, Governor of the AIIB for Egypt and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the AIIB in 2023.
Qin Liqun, President of the AIIB and Chairman of the Board of Directors, noted: “We highly appreciate the continuous support from the governments of Uzbekistan and Egypt. The annual meeting of the AIIB is a unique opportunity to receive invaluable knowledge and recommendations on the strategic direction of the Bank from our shareholders. Regular engagement with our shareholders is essential to ensuring the transparency and collaboration that underpin AIIB’s rapid and strong growth."
“The success of our Annual Meetings is due to the continued support of our hosts, who generously facilitate interaction and open discussion on issues of global concern,” said Ludger Schuknecht, AIIB Vice President and Corporate Secretary.
Laziz Kudratov also noted: “I am sincerely glad that the Board of the Bank has made a decision to hold the next annual meeting of the Bank in Samarkand. Uzbekistan has extensive experience in holding such events on an international scale, and I am confident that our event will be held at the highest level. This event will also be a valuable opportunity for us to demonstrate our strong partnership with AIIB and highlight the Bank’s outstanding contribution to Uzbekistan as well as Central Asia.”
The dignitaries also expressed their gratitude to the people and government of Egypt for hosting the AIIB Annual Meeting in 2023.
Uzbekistan joined the AIIB in November 2016 and is a founding member. To date, the AIIB portfolio in Uzbekistan consists of 13 projects totaling US$2.34 billion in the field of renewable energy, transport, water supply, urban and rural infrastructure development, as well as projects implemented as part of the AIIB program to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is an international financial institution whose mission is to finance the “Infrastructure of Tomorrow”—infrastructure with sustainable development at its core.
