Uzbekistan to Host First “Civil Initiative” National Award Competition
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 August, under the chairmanship of First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodik Safoev, the first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the national award “Fukarolik Tashabbusi” (“Civil Initiative”) was held.
The committee includes deputies of the Legislative Chamber and members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, as well as representatives from several ministries and agencies.
The national award was established by the Presidential Decree of 26 August 2024 “On Measures to Further Improve the System of State Support for Civil Society Institutions” and is being held for the first time. The competition will take place every two years, organized by the Public Fund for Supporting Civil Society Institutions under the parliament.
Its aim is to recognize civil society institutions, active public figures, and initiative citizens who have contributed to the development of a free civil society in Uzbekistan.
Winners will be selected in eight categories, including human rights protection, youth policy development, social innovation, environmental initiatives, and philanthropy. Laureates will receive cash prizes — 50 base calculation units for first place, 40 for second, and 30 for third — along with a statuette and a certificate.
Applications may be submitted by civil society institutions and initiative citizens with at least two years of active work, until 1 October 2025, to the Public Fund or its regional offices.
Committee members emphasized that the competition will be conducted transparently and with broad public engagement.
