Uzbekistan to establish a Center for retraining and upskilling in the energy sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Cabinet of Ministers decree from 16 July 2024 has approved measures for the retraining and upskilling of personnel in the energy sector.

Currently, there are 80,000 workers employed in the electricity and oil and gas industries. The lack of a unified system for retraining and upskilling energy sector employees negatively impacts the quality of repair work in the sector, leading to increased accidents and failures.

In collaboration with Uzenergoinspektsiya, the Ministry of Energy, JSC "Issik-Kul Electric Stations," "Uzbekhydroenergo," "Uzbekistan National Electric Grid," "Uzbekneftegaz," "Uztransgaz," "Khududgazteminot," and "Uzkimyosanoat," a new entity will be established in the form of a limited liability company (LLC) called the Center for Retraining and Upskilling in the Energy Sector, with territorial branches.

Main Objectives of the Center:

Ensuring the quality of education for personnel in line with modern requirements.

Developing the necessary level of professional competencies, and implementing mechanisms for the continuous improvement of professional knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Designing training programs based on advanced international experience.

Implementing digital information systems for analyzing and monitoring the quality and effectiveness of the educational process.

Organizing specialized training courses in energy auditing and energy management.

Creating digital educational resources to enhance qualifications and establish a system of distance learning, among other tasks.

From 1 April 2025, the following groups will undergo skills enhancement:

Managers and specialists – at least once every five years.

Engineering, technical, production, and operational staff – at least once every three years.

By 1 April 2025, the Center will launch a special electronic platform to organize training courses for retraining and upskilling energy sector workers, as well as to conduct final exams.

Participants who successfully complete the retraining and upskilling courses will be issued a corresponding certificate.
