Uzbekistan to create a National Register to account for emissions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of participation in the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Industrial Innovation Group Taryam Matar Taryam signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document is aimed at cooperation within the framework of the creation of the National Carbon Credit System.

Industrial Innovation Group is a transnational group of companies headquartered in the UAE. It has extensive 30 years of experience in creating complex, high-tech systems, design and construction of large-scale industrial and innovative complexes. The organization develops sustainable pathways for various business sectors, conceptualizes carbon removal initiatives, creates design documents for various carbon credit registries, and is also a global manufacturer of biochar – Hemporama Biochar.

The memorandum was concluded in accordance with Uzbekistan’s national strategy to reduce emissions. Previously, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change initiated the creation of a National Register to record emissions.

During the meeting, Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that the creation of a register is an effective approach to solving the problem of climate change, integrating a system of regulations for existing emissions and a system for motivating projects to reduce emissions. The Uzbek side also noted that the national register is a tool for achieving this integration.

In turn, Matar Taryam emphasized that it is a great honor and pride for the organization to contribute to the creation of the National Emissions Accounting Register of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The General Director noted that the establishment of cooperation demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainable development and reduction of environmental risks, which is especially important in the context of global climate challenges today.

Also, the vice-president of the company, Anna Chekanova, emphasized the importance of the created register.

“The world has made significant strides in highlighting the climate crisis and developing technologies to reduce emissions. Today is the key moment when all this knowledge and innovation must be put into practice. The register being created is a unified platform that integrates all participants in the climate ecosystem, which will contribute to the effective and practical achievement of the set environmental goals,” said A. Chekanova.

Uzbekistan’s collaborative emissions inventory is a robust approach to accurately assessing the nation’s environmental footprint and developing a framework for carbon capture initiatives. The registry will create a critical link, serving as a comprehensive platform where organizations can regularly monitor their emissions and carbon sequestration projects can be accurately assessed.
