Uzbekistan to construct combined-cycle plant at Takhiatash station
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to construct combined-cycle plant at the Takhiatash thermoelectric power station open joint stock company with the capacity of 230-250 megawatt with the cost of US$300 million.

Reconstruction of Takhiatash thermoelectric power station is connected with expansion of activities of oil and gas companies at the fields of Ustyurt Platue. This requires additional energy.

Within the project, it is planned to install combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 230-250 megawatt, remove old blocks and expand capacities of the station.

The Government of Uzbekistan is planning to attract loans for implementation of the project for US$220 million. Uzbekistan will direct US$80 million to the project. According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the bank can issue US$100 million.

ADB already allocated technical assistance for US$1.2 million. The funds will be used to development of the project.

The capacity of Takhiatash thermoelectric power station is 730 megawatt. The first block was commissioned in 1956 and the last fifth – in 1967. The station provides electricity to Karakalpakstan Republic and Khorezm region.
