Uzbekistan to construct 517 km of roads in 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to construct 517 km of automobile roads in 2012, of which 165 km will be with cement-concrete pavement, and 544 meters of overpasses, Uzavtoyol state joint stock company said on 9 March 2012.

The company said that it is planned to carry out capital reconstruction at 204 km of roads, current repair works at 3,500 km of roads and modernize five enterprises of road construction in 2012.

To execute these works, it is planned to purchase 111 units of modern road repair and construction equipment and mechanisms.

Uzavtoyol said it pays special attention to development of roadside infrastructure and service along the Uzbek national highway. In 2012, it is planned to construct 240 objects, including 19 camping sites, 18 motels, 36 fueling stations, 49 gas filling compressor stations, 78 points for calling emergency medical aid, 31 parking stations and nine modern tourism services.

Uzavtoyol underlined that 1,505 km of automobile roads were built again and reconstructed in 2011, of which 302.5 km of roads were part of Uzbekistan national highway. The company also reconstructed 329.5 km of general use roads and 764 km of intraeconomic roads, 68 km of roads near habitations and 42 km of city roads. Some 572 billion soums were utilized in 2011.

The company said that 95 roadside service objects were constructed and launched at Uzbekistan national highway in 2011.

Uzavtoyol said that Uzbekistan plans to construct and reconstruct 2,306 km of roads of Uzbekistan national highway in 2011-2015, of which 1,410 km will be constructed and reconstructed, while geometric parameters of 896 km roads will be moved from 10 tonnes of axial load to 13 tonnes.

It is also planned to construct 1,008 km of automobile roads on Beinau-Kungrad-Bukhara-Navoi-Samarkand-Tashkent-Andijan, as well as construct and reconstruct 100 km area of Kamchiq passing at Tashkent-Osh highway. Soon, it is planned to complete construction of 22 km bypass road at Tashkent ring road.

It was noted that total length of roads in Uzbekistan makes up about 184,000 km, of which 42,654 km are roads of general use, including 2,775 km of roads of Uzbekistan national highway.
