Uzbekistan to ban paving over green spaces near residential buildings
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from 1 July, Uzbekistan will tighten regulations on unauthorized paving, construction, and installation of various structures in green areas within residential apartment complexes.
This measure is outlined in a presidential decree signed by Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 30 January, approving the State Program for the Implementation of the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy as part of the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy (2025).
The decision was made based on proposals from the general public, international and domestic environmental activists, and the scientific community. It aims to protect fertile soil layers and preserve green spaces in urban and residential areas.
Additionally, a new requirement will be introduced for the design, construction, and commissioning of multi-story residential buildings: the mandatory installation of irrigation systems that utilize wastewater, rainwater, and technical water.
As part of efforts to enhance the environmental landscape of mahallas and increase urban greenery in 2025, several initiatives are planned. These include the creation of a network of “Shaded Walking Streets” by planting trees and vegetation along pedestrian and bicycle paths. The program will also promote the active use of rainwater and wastewater for irrigation and the implementation of modern water-saving technologies in mahallas.
