Uzbekistan to Allow Personalized License Plates Starting 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from 1 January 2026, vehicle owners in Uzbekistan will be able to purchase unique license plates featuring custom alphanumeric combinations.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the corresponding resolution on September 4. The right to issue such plates through open electronic auctions has been granted to the state unitary enterprise “Uzavtomotobelgi.”
New plates may include up to six characters—letters and numbers—provided that the combinations do not duplicate existing registration numbers and do not contain expressions that violate the law or moral standards.
As a result, vehicles with plates such as “SARVAR,” “AZIZA,” “ODIL,” or “BUXORO” may appear on the country’s roads.
The idea of introducing personalized plates was first discussed in 2019 on the collective petitions portal Mening Fikrim. The initiative’s author noted that such practices have long been used in many countries and could generate additional revenue for the budget.
Currently, only “special” plates that meet standard formats are sold through electronic auctions on the portal avtoraqam.uzex.uz.
A petition for personalized plates collected over 900 votes, but it did not reach the threshold of 10,000 signatures required for consideration by the Legislative Chamber of Parliament.
