In view of the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in cattle in the neighbouring Kyrgyzstan, Uzbek authorities are taking emergency measures to prevent the spread of the epizootic onto the territory of Uzbekistan.
Emergency Anti-epidemic Commission has made the decision to strengthen the measures to prevent the disease and its spread to Uzbekistan, Rosbalt quoted the Head State Department of Veterinary under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan.
Veterinary control has been strengthened, particularly in the areas near the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border. Mass checks and vaccination of all domestic animals are being done in the so-called buffer zones on the border with Kyrgyzstan. Apart from this, the cattle pasture in the mountains of the neighbouring Kyrgyzstan has been banned.
About 2.5 million dozes of vaccines have been delivered to the border districts. The reserves include another 500,000 dozes. It is planned that in the second half of the year, the Government will procure some 2 million more dozes for several types of foot-and-mouth disease from Russia. The contracts for the delivery have already been signed with several Russian companies.
