Uzbekistan took first place, Kazakhstan took second place, winning four gold and one bronze medals in the overall standings. Russia also took third place, winning two gold and four bronze medals.
Because of the admission of Russians and Belarusians, the World Championship under the auspices of the IBA was boycotted by Great Britain, the USA, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, as well as Ukraine.
Due to the detrimental influence of the IBA on boxing, the International Olympic Committee is holding its own qualification for the Olympic Boxing Tournament in Paris. In the future, boxing may be removed from the Olympics.
