Uzbekistan 22/09/2009 Uzbekistan suspends food import, export with Turkmenistan
Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Due to dangerous epidemiological situation in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan has introduced a temporary restriction on the import and export of meat and dairy products, leather, wool and animals, which are used in agriculture, through the Uzbek-Turkmen border, a representative of the Khorazm regional administration told the RIA Novosti news agency today.

He said that the restriction was introduced based on a decision made by the regional emergency anti-epidemic commission specifically because of "dangerous spread of hemorrhagic fever".

"People are infected and die because of untimely and insufficient measures taken on its prevention," the source said.

He refused to provide information about the number of people infected and died as a result of this infection.
