Uzbekistan supports UN General Assembly resolution on Palestine

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The UN General Assembly approved a resolution on Wednesday calling for Israel to withdraw its forces from occupied Palestinian territories, according to the UN News Service.

The resolution, proposed by Palestine and supported by dozens of other countries, was adopted by 124 delegations, including Uzbekistan. Forty-three countries abstained from the vote, while fourteen voted against.

The resolution is based on an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice regarding the legal consequences of Israel’s policies and actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. It demands that Israel "immediately cease its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories."

It also sets deadlines for compliance, stating that Israel must adhere to these requirements "no later than 12 months after the adoption of this resolution."

The resolution was passed during the 10th special session of the UN General Assembly focused on the Middle East conflict, which resumed its work on September 17.
