Uzbekistan sums up the results of the Year of the Russian Language in the CIS

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- 2023 was declared in the CIS countries the Year of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication.

One of the results of the year of the Russian language for Uzbekistan was participation in the project “Ambassadors of the Russian language in the world.” More than 400 students and schoolchildren of the Republic took part in the project. Russian language ambassadors, accompanied by an employee of the State Institute of Russian Language named after A. S. Pushkin, conducted a series of classes at the Denau University of Entrepreneurship and Pedagogy, at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, as well as in schools in Fergana and at Fergana State University.

“In Uzbekistan we were greeted incredibly warmly and cordially! We were very welcome and provided all the conditions for conducting classes. Teachers noted that in the future ambassadors will be able to come for a longer period,” Elizaveta Golovakha, a teacher at the Pushkin Institute, shared her impressions.

The growing interest in learning the Russian language is evidenced by the statistics of the information and educational portal “Modern Russian”, according to which, at the end of 2023, Uzbekistan entered the top 10 countries in the world where there is the greatest interest in the portal’s resources dedicated to the methods of teaching the Russian language and its study. Among the leading countries in the popularity of the Russian language, project experts also noted Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.

“Methodologists and teachers of Russian as a foreign language from these countries show special interest in the multimedia resources of the Modern Russian portal, which allows them to diversify the teaching process. Beginning and experienced teachers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have repeatedly thanked the “Modern Russian” project for the selection of articles “Expert Advice”, which contain many useful practical tips, for access to colorful and informative materials from the catalog of proverbs about language and speech “Images of Russian words”, for informing about innovations in digital teaching of Russian as a foreign language, including, for example, the development of MPGU for Uzbek Russian specialists. Many teachers from these countries are subscribers to the Modern Russian project on social networks and have the opportunity to ask questions and receive timely assistance from the project’s linguists,” shared Tamara Skok, PhD in Philology, director of the department of innovative linguistic projects of the TV BRICS media network, head of the international project “Modern Russian".

In Uzbekistan, systematic work is underway to promote and study the Russian language in educational institutions. Since September 2021, about 200 teachers and methodologists of the Russian language have been sent to educational institutions of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan takes an active part in the international Russian language organization, the agreement on the establishment of which was signed by the heads of the CIS states during the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the CIS in 2020. In October 2020, Russia and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the implementation of the “Class!” project, designed for 10 years, to improve the level of Russian language proficiency in schools of the Republic. The Russian State Pedagogical University and the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training of Leaders and Specialists of the Public Education System named after A. Avloni (Uzbekistan) are working jointly on the project. The Russian Cultural Center, which opened in 1994, operates in the Republic of Uzbekistan. There are 14 branches of leading Russian universities open in the country.
