Uzbekistan successfully defended the second voluntary national report in the UN Economic and Social Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 July, a delegation from Uzbekistan led by Minister of Economy and Finance Sherzod Kudbiyev presented the second Voluntary National Review (VNR) of Uzbekistan as part of the UN Economic and Social Council’s high-level political forum in New York, United States. This was reported by the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

During this presentation, the participants of the event were informed about the state of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Uzbekistan, discussion of the VNR, ongoing reforms in the economy, including the opportunities provided for the organization and development of entrepreneurship in the framework of the New Development Strategy of Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

Separately, the work on the introduction of market mechanisms in the economy, reforms in agriculture, infrastructure development, major achievements in education and health care, the development of a "green" economy, the social protection system, poverty reduction and gender equality, and international cooperation were touched upon.

At this forum, 39 countries present their Voluntary National Reviews, of which 36, including Uzbekistan, are submitting VNRs for the second time.

During the event, Uzbekistan announced its firm commitment to the implementation of the global agenda until 2030.

While many countries have achieved results on the number (4-5) of the SDGs, the Republic of Uzbekistan has shown success in almost all adopted goals thanks to the right reforms in the economic, social and other spheres.

For reference, by 2030, 17 SDGs have been approved in the global agenda, Uzbekistan has committed itself to 16 goals.

In particular:

Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere

Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

Goal 3: Ensuring healthy lifestyles and promoting well-being for all at all ages

Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Goal 6: Ensure the availability and sustainable use of water and sanitation for all

Goal 7: Ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Goal 8: Promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth through effective employment and decent employment for men and women;

Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and innovation

Goal 10: reduce domestic inequality in all its manifestations;

Goal 11: ensuring openness, safety and environmental sustainability of cities and towns;

Goal 12: ensure the transition to sustainable patterns of consumption and production;

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts;

Goal 15: Protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems, promote their sustainable use, sustainable forest management, combat desertification, halt and reverse land erosion, halt biodiversity loss;

Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels;

Goal 17 - Strengthen the enablers and revitalize the work of the global partnership for sustainable development.

Uzbekistan is not committed to Goal 14.

The international community praised the country’s progress in achieving the goals and targets achieved in recent years in the field of sustainable development.
