Uzbekistan strengthens information security in the financial sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 September 2024, Uzbekistan adopted the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of Legislation in the Field of Cybersecurity". This law is aimed at enhancing information security in the activities of credit organizations.

The law regulates the activities of the Central Bank and addresses issues related to information security and cybersecurity in the operations of banks, non-bank credit organizations, payment system operators, and the e-government sector.

Additionally, changes and amendments are introduced to legislation governing the protection of information within automated banking systems and banking secrecy.

In particular, a new provision added to the Law "On the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan" mandates that the Central Bank take measures to identify and prevent information security and cybersecurity threats in the activities of microfinance organizations, pawnshops, mortgage refinancing organizations, banks, payment organizations, payment system operators, currency exchanges, and credit bureaus.
