Uzbekistan strengthens cooperation with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Kakha Imnadze.

At the meeting, the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and its specialized agencies, including the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, was discussed. Plans that are being implemented jointly were also considered.

It was noted that cooperation with the Center covers issues of ensuring peace and security, combating terrorism, involving the potential of women and youth in strengthening peace, preventing and resolving conflicts, as well as the joint and rational use of transboundary water and energy resources.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan, within the UN, represents initiatives that receive the support of the international community and contribute to stability and sustainable development, as well as the protection of human rights.

It was noted that various platforms for dialogue and cooperation at the regional level, including the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries, which in just 3 years has become a timely platform for developing popular proposals in ensuring gender equality. Here we focused on the active participation of the Center.

In order to enhance the effectiveness of the Dialogue, it was proposed to consider the possibility of opening a permanent Dialogue Secretariat in Tashkent.

Issues related to realizing the potential of young people, who make up half of the country’s population, were also discussed. An exchange of views was held on cooperation with the Center for Improving the Knowledge of Members of the Youth Parliament under the Senate in the field of modern methods and tools of preventive diplomacy.

Kakha Imnadze noted that relations between the countries of Central Asia play an important role in ensuring peace, stability and growth in all aspects. He expressed recognition of Uzbekistan’s contribution to this process.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the further development of close and constructive cooperation on a number of pressing issues of a regional nature.
