Uzbekistan starts fighting locusts from air
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
The air company SAR (Special Aviation Work) - a branch of the national airline Uzbekistan Havo Yollari (Uzbekistan Airways) has started spraying chemicals on the country’s agricultural fields.
The first flights were made by crews of An-2 aircraft in eastern Namangan and Fargona aviation units, which have already sprayed several thousands hectares of fields.
Starting from 10 April, the next stage of the fight against locusts will be stepped up. It will be one third of all the work planned for this year. At this stage, there are plans to use 12 An-2 aircraft, which will spray fields in the southern Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, central Samarkand and northwestern Karakalpakstan regions.
Locusts will become active in April-May.
