Uzbekistan, South Korea to cooperate in FOSS promotion
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and South Korea signed a memorandum of understanding for the cooperation in the field of developing open source software on 14 July 2016.

National IT industry promotion agency of the Republic of Korea, “Electronic Government” System Development Center of Uzbekistan, Tashkent University of Information Technologies and Inha University in Tashkent inked the document.

President of NIPA Yoon Jong-lok, Director of “Electronic Government” System Development Center of Uzbekistan Sherzod Khabibullaev, Rector of Tashkent University of Information Technologies Utkir Khamdamov and Rector of Inha University in Tashkent Sherzod Shermatov put their signatures under the memorandum.

The sides signed the memorandum within the roundtable of the Uzbek-Korean Forum on Free and Open-Source Software, which was held in Tashkent on 14 July.

The purpose of the document is to build basis for mutual cooperation between NIPA, EGSDC, IUT and TUIT, vitalize utilization and training of OSS which is a key technology of the future, and thus contribute to the development of the parties, develop excellent OSS engineers, etc.

Within the memorandum, the sides will cooperate in such directions as utilization and expansion of Open Source Software (OSS) in the field of electronic government and technical cooperation in the field of electronic government based on OSS. They will also work together in exporting export of electronic government based on OSS.

The sides also agreed to develop personnel through specialized training and cooperation of OSS and promote OSS via joint events.
