Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 September, a meeting was held between the delegation led by the Deputy Head of the Department of Agricultural Production of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Jamshidjon Abduzuhurov and representatives of the International Institute of Horticulture of South Korea.

During the meeting, a project aimed at increasing the potential of personnel in the development of seed production and the potato production system in Uzbekistan was discussed. In accordance with which representatives of the International Institute of Horticulture and Vegetable Growing announced their intention to build a “smart” greenhouse based on the hydroponics method on the territory of the Samarkand Institute of Agro Innovation and Research, as well as a warehouse for storing potatoes.

The main goal of this project is the effective development of potato seed production and the training of highly qualified specialists capable of managing this system. Also, through the implementation of the project, it is expected to make a certain contribution to ensuring the country’s food security and increasing the income of local farmers.

The “smart greenhouse” is planned to be put into operation in October. Another of the main areas of its activity is testing potato varieties created by Uzbek and Korean breeders in the greenhouse. Another goal is to create a complete chain for growing the most productive varieties, thereby improving the qualifications of undergraduates and scientific researchers, and in the future to supply high-yielding potato seeds to local farms.
