Uzbekistan signs contracts to export 1m tonnes of cotton fiber
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan signed contracts to export 1 million tonnes of cotton fiber at the Fifth International Uzbek Cotton Fair, which took place in Tashkent on 14-15 October 2009.

Uzbekistan inked direct export contracts for 600,000 tonnes of 2009 crop and general agreement for 400,000 tonnes of 2010 crop.

The Uzbek officials said companies from Bangladesh, Iran, China, Korea, Moldavia, the UAE, Pakistan, Russia, Turkey and Japan.

The Government of Uzbekistan organized the Fifth International Uzbek Cotton Fair in cooperation with ICAC. Over 276 companies from 34 countries participated at the event.

Uzbekistan annually produces 3.5 million tonnes of raw cotton and 1 million-1.2 million tonnes of cotton fiber. Uzbekistan exports about 75% of cotton fiber.
