Uzbekistan sends humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan has sent humanitarian aid to residents of Kyrgyzstan affected by flooding.

This assistance was provided under the instructions of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

On 14 July 2024, heavy rainfall in the mountains caused severe flooding in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan. As a result of mudflows, five people lost their lives, including four members of one family—a mother and her three daughters. The mother’s body was found 500 meters from the Uzbekistan border, and the bodies of her daughters were discovered in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan.

The flooding affected 134 houses, a city market, several villages, and damaged 15 vehicles. 420 people, including tourists, were evacuated.

In addition, the mudflows caused several bridges to collapse in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan.

On 16 July, humanitarian aid weighing 200 tons was delivered to the Kyrgyz side. The cargo includes food, clothing, building materials, and other essential goods.

The handover ceremony was attended by the head of the Andijan region, Shukhrat Abdurakhmanov, and other officials.
