Uzbekistan expects this year’s grain crop to reach an all-time record of 6.35 million tonnes by bunker weight, up from 6.19 million tonnes last year, an agriculture ministry official said on Tuesday.
The official said Uzbekistan had harvested 6.25 million tonnes so far this year and expected to gather a further 100,000 tonnes from unirrigated areas by the end of July, Reuters reported.
In 2007, grain was sowed on 1.27 million hectares compared to 1.32 million hectares last season. The official gave no separate forecast for the wheat crop.
Last year wheat accounted for 6.10 million tonnes by bunker weight. The remaining 96,000 tonnes made up barley and rye.
