Uzbekistan - Saudi Arabia: A new stage in inter-parliamentary relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 1 July 2024, Akmal Saidov, First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with members of the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Saudi-Uzbek Parliamentary Friendship Committee of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad bin Abdulaziz al-Jarba.

At the outset of the dialogue, it was noted that historical ties and shared values serve as a solid foundation for friendly relations between our countries. Thanks to the strong political will of the leaders of the states, bilateral relations have been elevated to a new qualitative level in recent years.

In particular, trade volumes between the two countries are increasing, the number of joint ventures and flights are on the rise, and projects in cooperation within "green" energy, agriculture, healthcare, transport infrastructure modernization, IT, and other priority areas are being implemented.

The similarity in goals and objectives of the strategic programs "Uzbekistan-2030" and "Vision-2030", aimed at development and modernization, was highlighted. The delegation members were presented with information on reforms implemented in our country within the framework of the Strategy, the activities of the Legislative Chamber, legislation, the methods of work of political party factions and committees, and innovations in the field of parliamentarism.

During the meeting, the phased development of bilateral relations in recent years, the expansion of multilateral cooperation, and extensive partnership between our countries were positively assessed. The activation of dialogues in the political and economic spheres was also discussed.

Issues related to expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation were also discussed, including the activation of friendship groups, continuation of exchange visits, holding "Days of Uzbek Culture" in Riyadh and Jeddah, and strengthening cooperation in tourism, information, and communication technologies.

In turn, the Chairman of the Saudi-Uzbek Parliamentary Friendship Committee expressed gratitude for the warm reception and particularly noted the well-balanced, open, and constructive foreign policy conducted under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in recent years, as well as the extensive reforms and their results. The strengthening of comprehensive relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia was also emphasized. In particular, the attention given by the leaders of both countries to the development of mutual cooperation is evident in practical efforts today.

The head of the delegation also expressed satisfaction that Uzbekistan has broad and significant opportunities in all directions, including tourism, and expressed confidence in the implementation of promising projects between the two countries and further development of mutual cooperation.
