Economy 01/08/2007 Uzbekistan restructures aircraft plant by cutting 2,200 jobs
The Uzbek government has adopted a decision to restructure the Tashkent Aviation Construction Production Association named after Chkalov (TAPOiCh), which stipulates staff reductions of 2,200.

This was announced in a Cabinet of Ministers resolution "On measures to optimize the work and financial recovery of the TAPOiCh state joint-stock company", which was published on 31 July.

The Prime-TASS news agency learnt at the company that in line with the document, 2,200 jobs are to be cut, including 365 in management, by the end of this year. The company employed 10,900 people as of early July.

The document also envisages the sale through auctions of the company’s non-core social facilities as well as part of the plant’s territory together with its facilities.

The company believes that the government’s move may be viewed as preparations for TAPOiCh’s joining Russia’s Amalgamated Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation.
