Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan ranked 70th in the Government AI Readiness Index for 2024, published by Oxford Insights.
This year, the index covers the readiness of 188 countries to implement artificial intelligence in an increasingly complex environment, where governments face changing citizen needs and challenges such as economic instability, climate risks, and growing social inequality.
The 2024 index evaluates 40 indicators grouped into three categories: government institutions, technology, and data and infrastructure.
The report highlights the progress made, identifies existing gaps, and provides practical recommendations for policymakers aiming to effectively integrate AI into governance.
Compared to last year, Uzbekistan improved its position by 17 spots, reaching 70th place.
In the South and Central Asia region, the country ranks third, trailing only India (46th globally) and Turkey (53rd). Kazakhstan is ranked 76th globally and 4th in the region.
Uzbekistan scored 64.71 in the "Government Institutions" category, 33.5 in the "Technology Sector" category, and 62.14 in the "Data and Infrastructure" category.
Notably, in the "Vision" section, Uzbekistan scored a perfect 100, far exceeding the global average of 42.55.
In the "Governance and Ethics" category, Uzbekistan achieved a score of 58.57, which also surpasses the global average, reflecting the country’s significant efforts to develop ethical standards for AI. In 2024, Uzbekistan prepared a draft regulatory framework to create these standards.
Uzbekistan particularly excelled in the "Data Availability" section, earning 84.05 points. This highlights the country’s efforts to ensure open access to data, a critical component of AI infrastructure development.
