Uzbekistan Railway Worker Saves Two Girls From Canal

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A routine workday turned into a life-or-death moment for an Uzbekistan Railways employee who pulled two girls from a fast-moving canal.

Aʼzam Ibragimov, a track fitter with the mechanized brigade of Shop No. 20 at the Tashkent Regional Railway Junction, was on duty in the Sergeli district of the capital on June 9 when he spotted two girls being carried away by the current of the Karasu Canal. He immediately entered the water and brought both children to safety.

Video footage of the incident, showing the hazardous stretch of water near a bridge over the canal, subsequently circulated widely on social media.

Uzbekistan Railways confirmed the rescue and announced that Ibragimov had been recognized for his courage and quick thinking with a letter of commendation, a commemorative gift, and a cash bonus.
