Uzbekistan, Qatar sign several agreements
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Qatar and Uzbekistan signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral relations following a round of official talks between the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan at the Emiri Diwan.

The talks were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah and a number of ministers. On the Uzbek side, the talks were attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov and Uzbek Ambassador to Qatar Abdurafik Khoshimov.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the existing relations between the two countries in addition to a number of issues of mutual interest, Gulf Times reported.

Following the meeting, the Emir and Uzbek president witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding.

An agreement for development of bilateral relations; an agreement for co-operation in the legal field; an agreement for economic, commercial and technical co-operation, a memoranda of understanding between Qatar Petroleum International and Uzbek (oil & gas) National Holding Company; a memorandum of understanding between foreign ministries of the two countries, a memorandum of understanding in the field of environment protection and preserving natural resources; a memorandum of understanding between Qatar Holding and Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade; and a memorandum of understanding in tourism co-operation were signed.

The agreements and the MoUs were signed by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, HE the Minister of Justice Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem, HE the Minister of Business and Trade Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz bin Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, HE the Minister of Environment Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aaboud al-Midhadhi and Dr Hussein al-Abdullah, board member of Qatar Investment Authority.

On the Uzbek side, they were signed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Rustam Azimovan, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov.

After the signing ceremony, the Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of Uzbek president and his accompanying delegation.

Later President Karimov visited the Museum of the Islamic Arts (MIA) and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).

President Karimov toured various sections at the Museum of the Islamic Arts. The Uzbek president signed in the MIA’s golden book, expressing his admiration.

During his tour of the QF the Uzbek President was accompanied by HE the Minister of State Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim al-Thani.

He was briefed on the activities of QF and its goals by QF Deputy Board Chairman Dr Saif al-Hajari.

Later in the evening, President Karimov left Doha wrapping a two-day visit to Qatar.

The Uzbek president and his accompanying delegation were seen off at Doha International airport by HE the Minister of State Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim al-Thani, and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Qatar Abdurafik Khoshimov.
