Uzbekistan proposes to abolish “mobile slavery”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan published an order “On approving the Regulation on transfer of subscriber numbers in mobile networks of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

The ministry proposes to abolish “mobile slavery” and make it possible to save the phone number of a mobile network subscriber when switching to another operator.

The document proposes to approve the provision on the transfer of the subscriber number in the mobile communication networks of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which determines the procedure for number transfer, maintenance and operation of a centralized base of transferred numbers.

The provision states that the service on the transfer of subscriber numbers will be provided by mobile operators on a fee basis.

The document notes that subscribers can change the operator no more than once every 180 days. It will be possible to transfer only numbers allocated for mobile operators.

At the same time, the document prohibits transferring numbers from fixed telephony to mobile and vice versa.
