Uzbekistan Proposes Involvement of National Companies in China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway Project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, held talks with Su De Sun, General Director of the state-owned China Railway Corporation, and Jin Xin, Deputy Head of the Foreign Investment Department of China’s National Development and Reform Commission.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current status of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway construction project and addressed the challenges encountered at this stage of its implementation.
Minister Makhkamov proposed involving Uzbek companies as subcontractors for various components of the project. He emphasized the importance of utilizing Uzbekistan’s domestic raw material base and industrial capacity, noting that doing so would enhance project efficiency and generate new economic opportunities for local businesses.
To further stimulate cargo volumes and promote the development of transport flows along the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan corridor, the minister also recommended designating the Kashgar station as an export hub. He argued that this move would expand the logistical capabilities of the route and strengthen its overall competitiveness.
