Uzbekistan Prepares Amendments to System for Protecting Citizens’ Rights and Appeals

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed in its first reading the draft law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

In recent years, the country has carried out large-scale reforms aimed at increasing the accountability of state bodies and organizations, as well as creating a comprehensive management system across various sectors. The new draft law continues this course, focusing on further improving the legal framework and aligning existing mechanisms with modern requirements.

The document provides for the harmonization and coordination of several existing legislative acts, modernization of procedures for considering appeals from individuals and legal entities, and development of the legal system in the field of intellectual property protection. Special attention is given to improving legislation on trademarks and patent fees.

According to the draft, the validity of a trademark certificate and the rights of its owners—whether legal or physical persons—may be terminated by a court decision upon the request of an interested party. Additionally, when using a designation of the product’s origin, a provision is introduced for applying a warning label approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The draft law also formalizes the concept of a “hotline”—a dedicated communication line for receiving appeals, proposals, and complaints from citizens and organizations regarding the protection of their lawful rights, freedoms, and interests.

Implementation of these amendments will strengthen legal certainty and stability in the work of state bodies, speed up and increase the transparency of the appeals process, enhance legal protection in the field of intellectual property, and create more favorable conditions for entrepreneurial activity.

Following active discussions, deputies supported the draft law and adopted it in the first reading.
