Uzbekistan plans to strengthen responsibility for illegal drug trafficking on the Internet

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At a plenary meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, deputies considered a bill aimed at tightening measures to combat the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, their analogues, psychotropic and potent substances via the Internet.

Despite the systemic measures taken in recent years in the country to combat illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, there has been an increase in the use of new methods of distributing and advertising medicines on the Internet.

One such method, known as drug graffiti, involves posting information about illegal online stores by drawing on walls and sidewalks. There has also been an increase in the involvement of young people, especially minors, in drug-related crimes.

The proposed bill stipulates tougher penalties for the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, their analogues and psychotropic substances using telecommunication networks and the Internet, as well as for the commission of these crimes involving minors.

The bill also establishes administrative and criminal liability for the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation or transfer of drugs, their analogues and psychotropic substances, as well as potent and toxic substances without the purpose of sale.

The adoption of this law will contribute to the timely prevention of propaganda or advertising of drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as potent and toxic substances, as well as countering their illicit trafficking.
