According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan, this year it is planned to sow late-ripening potato at over 30,000 hectares of land. Currently, the farmers completed sowing of autumn potato.
The farmers received over 80,000 tonnes of seeds. About 10,000 tonnes of super elite seeds were imported from the Netherlands to further increasing potato productivity and updating potato sorts and preparing quality seed fund.
Uzbekistan produced over 300,000 tonnes of potato to satisfy needs of population in 1990, while now the country produced 1.6 million tonnes. In earlier years of Independence, average potato yield was 85 centners per hectare, now it reached 240-250 centners, UzA reported.
