Uzbekistan plans to launch silicon production in June 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uz-Kor Silikon, an Uzbek-South Korean joint venture, is planning to commission silicon production capacities in Navoi region in June 2012.

The newspaper “Znamiya Drujbi” reported that the assembly of equipment has been started at the enterprise, which is located in Navoi region.

The customer is Uz-Kor Silikon, which is founded by the State Committee of Uzbekistan on Geology and South Korean company NEOPLANT, which possesses modern technology on production of silicon.

NEOPLANT developed feasibility study. The calculated cost of the project is US$20.45 million. The paper said that NEOPLANT invests US$8.65 million of foreign direct investments and attracted US$3.3 million of loans. Navoiazot OJSC invested US$5.2 million of own resources and Asaka Bank issued loan for US$3.3 million.

The project is implemented in free premises near Navoiazot. The construction of buildings and infrastructure was completed. NEOPLANT and Navoiazot specialists are installing equipment at the enterprise and constructing social infrastructure.

Farhod Bahronov, deputy head engineer of Navoiazot on production and technical development of enterprise, said that the production will be fully localized and export oriented. The annual production volume makes up 12,000 tonnes. In the second stage of the project, it is planned to double production capacities.
