Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekstan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree aimed at enhancing state control over industrial, radiation, and nuclear safety.
As part of this decree, new inspection units have been established within the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety. These units will oversee enterprises in Navoi, Almalyk, Bekabad, and railway facilities where there are heightened risks.
The newly formed divisions will be responsible for monitoring compliance with safety standards and preventing potential incidents at hazardous industrial sites.
Starting from 1 July 2025, practical enforcement of liability measures will begin. Legal entities found violating industrial safety requirements at high-risk facilities, as well as radiation and nuclear safety regulations, or operating amusement rides without compliance, will be subject to fines.
In addition, Uzbekistan intends to join key international agreements, including the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage, the Convention on Assistance in Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, and the Convention on Nuclear Safety.
Within a year, several important legislative proposals are expected to be developed, including draft laws on "Chemical Safety", "Industrial Safety at Hazardous Production Facilities", and "Radioactive Waste Management". These initiatives aim to create a comprehensive framework for ensuring safety in these critical sectors.
