Uzbekistan plans to increase production of energy saving lamps
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan is planning to increase production of energy saving lamps by 45.3 times in 2015.

In line with the programme on priorities of industry development of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015, Uzbekistan will increase output of energy saving lamps from 637,000 units in 2010 to 28.87 million units in 2015.

In particular, the country intends to increase production of energy saving lamps to 6.42 million units in 2011, 18.2 million units in 2012, 28.4 million units in 2013 and 28.7 million units in 2014.

In line with the programme, Uzbekistan will realize two projects on expanding production of energy saving lamps in 2011.

South Korean Shinhwa Lighting will implement the second phase of the project on production of energy saving lamps at Navoi free industrial-economic zone. The project implementation will help to increase lamp production to 10 million units. The project cost is US$2.3 million, of which US$1.3 million are foreign investments and US$1 million – own funds of the enterprise.

In 2011, Neo Sun Light will invest US$1.5 million to expanding production of energy saving lamps of various modification and types. In the result, the enterprise will produce 6 million lamps a year.

Uzbekistan is also developing a project on organization of production of LED lamps with capacity of 20 million units. The forecast cost of the project is US$20 million. The project will be implemented in 2012-2015.

In September 2010, the Uzbek-British joint venture Neo Sun Light on production of energy saving lamps has been launched. It was the first enterprise on production of energy saving lamps in Central Asia. The enterprise produces four types of energy saving fluorescent lighting bulbs – 11, 15, 20 and 25 w.

The first phase of the project was implemented within eight months. Equipments for US$2 million were purchased in China. All technological process was built on technologies of Philips and Osram.

In October 2010, Uzbekenergo and South Korea’s Semi Lighting Co. Ltd inked a memorandum on creation of joint venture on production of energy-saving light-emitting diode (LED) lamps.

Other Korean company Shinhwa Lighting is working on project on organization of production of energy saving lamps in Navoi free industrial and economic zone.

Introduction of energy saving lamps can allow Uzbekistan to save about US$50.6 million a year, Enlighten-Initiative, a project of the UNEP, Osram and Philips said. In line with the report of the project on Uzbekistan, the energy saving lamps can help consumers in Uzbekistan to save up to 2.53 billion K.W.H. of electricity a year.

According to Uzeletehsanoat, demand of Uzbekistan for energy saving lamps makes up about 50 million units.
