Uzbekistan 13/07/2009 Uzbekistan opposes new military bases in territory of neighboring states
Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan objects creation of the new military bases in the territory of the neighboring states. A high-ranking source in the government of Uzbekistan informed, REGNUM reported.

"Tashkent strongly objects creation of the new foreign military bases near its borders," a competent source in the government of Uzbekistan informed.

The military base of the Collective Rapid Response Forces (CRRF) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will be located in the south of Kyrgyzstan in the near future.

The experts have assumed that "one of the motives of Uzbekistan to oppose the new military base in the south of Kyrgyzstan can be the fact that there is considerable interethnic conflict potential in this region: the share of Uzbek population in the south of Kyrgyzstan grows, reaching in some areas 80 % of the population, not being represented in the local authorities and not having the adequate language rights.
