Uzbekistan notifies Russia on relocation of Pushkin monument in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan notified the Embassy of Russia on plans on relocation of the monument to Aleksandr Pushkin to one of central streets of Tashkent.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the monument is relocated within ongoing architectural renovation of Tashkent city.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan received with interest a proposal of the Russian side on relocation of the monument, so it was convenient to access it by population and hold cultural events, the Russian ministry said.

The monument was dismantled on 10 August and now it is under reconstruction. After reconstruction works, the monument will be placed to the square in front of Uzbekyengilsanoat. In new place, it is planned to launch new park “Pushkin times” at the area of 4.5 hectares.

It is planned to create places for rest in the square and install benches and lights, which will create of atmosphere of Pushkin epoch. It is also planned to create Pushkin café. Uzbekyengilsanoat will allocate premises in its building to create library of Pushkin, museum and shop.

Russian national cultural center called Tashkent city administration to relocate the monument and the city officials proposed to place the monument at the square in front of Uzbekyengilsanoat.

Pushkin monument in Tashkent was opened in June 1974. Mikhail Anikushin is the author of the bronze sculpture.
