Uzbekistan Nears Completion of National Cancer Control Plan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — National consultations were held in Tashkent to discuss the draft National Cancer Control Plan and the accompanying Action Plan, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Work on the documents began in early 2025. The main working group, comprising 30 leading oncologists and public policy experts, conducted a detailed analysis of the current situation, identified gaps and resources, and outlined priority areas for development.
The preparation of the National Plan and the Action Plan has now reached its final stage. Their primary goal is to reduce the burden of cancer on the population, improve the quality of life for patients and their families, and establish a sustainable cancer control system in line with international standards.
The documents cover all aspects of the healthcare system: prevention, early diagnosis, modern treatment, palliative care, and measures to improve post-disease quality of life. Special emphasis is placed on strengthening human resources and institutional capacity.
The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan with technical support from WHO, as part of the “Support for the Development of Oncology Services in the Republic of Uzbekistan (Phase II)” project, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Government of Uzbekistan.
