Uzbekistan, Mongolia hold political consultations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Third round of political consultations between foreign affairs ministries of Uzbekistan and Mongolia was held in Ulaanbaatar on 4 May 2011, the Uzbek ministry said in a statement on 4 May.

The Mongolian delegation was headed by Mr. Bayarbaatar Bolor, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia.

The sides discussed concrete directions of joint activity in fighting terrorism and drug trafficking, other modern challenges at regional and international levels, situation in Afghanistan, keeping peace and stability in Central Asia and Mongolia, as well as protecting environment and rational use of water resources.

It was noted that the countries have common positions on actual international and regional issues, which create firm position for intensification of partnership on other directions.

The Mongolian side underlined importance of the initiative of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov on normalization of situation in Afghanistan in format of 6+3, as well as agreed with importance of rational use of water-energy resources of trans-boundary rivers, in the context of growing ecological problems in the region and importance of holding independent international expertise taking into account interest of all countries.

The sides discussed perspectives of further development of political interaction, including within the UN, SCO and other international organizations. The sides exchanged opinion on trade-economic cooperation, including in automobile, mining, agriculture, irrigation, environment protection, transport communication, tourism, as well as expanding legal base of the relations between two states.

Uzbekistan supports efforts of Mongolia on development of cooperation within the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) to solve transit problems on territory of some neighboring states and receive preferences in connection with remoteness of sea.

The sides agreed to continue dialogue between foreign ministries, hold bilateral business forums, boost cooperation between academic circles and scientific-research institutes to study historic heritage.

The sides agreed to hold next round of consultations in Tashkent in 2012.

Within the political consulgations, the delegation of Uzbekistan has been received by Gombojav Zandanshatar, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia.
