Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan men’s chess team secured third place at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, held in Budapest.
In the final round, the team defeated France with a score of 2.5-1.5. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, and Javokhir Sindarov all drew their games, while Shamsiddin Vakhidov delivered the decisive victory for the team.
India took first place in the tournament, followed by the USA in second. Uzbekistan was unable to defend its title as World Chess Olympiad champions.
Individual awards were earned by Shamsiddin Vakhidov and Nodirbek Abdusattorov. Vakhidov won a gold medal on board five, scoring 8 points out of 10, while Abdusattorov claimed a silver medal on board one with a result of 9 out of 11 possible points.
Meanwhile, the Uzbekistan women’s team triumphed over Turkey with a score of 2.5-1.5. Nilufar Yakubbaeva and Nodira Nodirjanova won their matches, while Umida Omanova drew.
In the final standings, the women’s team placed 12th, with Nodira Nodirjanova achieving second place on board five, earning 7 points out of 8 possible.
