Uzbekistan may announce a moratorium on the construction of new cement plants

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The government of Uzbekistan may announce a moratorium on the construction of new cement plants. This was stated by the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, Aziz Abdukhakimov.

He said that the Government had decided not to build new cement plants and was considering the possibility of declaring a moratorium.

According to him, an analysis of the activities of cement factories in Uzbekistan is currently underway. Of the 47 cement factories, 23 temporarily ceased operations due to decreased demand for products or due to non-compliance with environmental requirements.

The minister emphasized that 90% of the 25 cement enterprises whose activities were studied do not comply with environmental standards.

According to the Statistics Agency, in 2023 Uzbekistan produced more than 11.93 million tons of cement.
