Uzbekistan marks Day of Remembrance and Honour
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan marked the Day of Remembrance and Honour on 9 May 2012. The events dedicated to the 67th anniversary of victory over fascism were held across the country.

President of Uzbekistan visited Honour Square in Tashkent and put wreath to the monument of Grieving Mother.

The Uzbek President paid tribute to the people, who died in the war in 1941-1945. Uzbek President said that Uzbekistan marks great historic event – the 67th anniversary of victory over fascism. He added that in all cities and rural areas of Uzbekistan, people pay tribute to those, who did not returned from war.

Islam Karimov also congratulated war veterans with the occasion and wished them long life and frank respect.

He said that some 1.5 million from Uzbekistan participated at the war. About 500,000 people died in the war. He said that this shows that all families suffered from the war and added that Uzbek people will always remember about agony, misfortunes and losses.

President Islam Karimov said that today it is actual to avoid such monstrous and destructive wars. He said that armed conflicts, bloody tragedies and uneasy situation around the country require vigilance. He said that Afghanistan is instable for 30 years and this is great threat for the country and its people, as well as to the region.

Islam Karimov said that people should take care of peaceful life in Uzbekistan and the country should trust to young generation and support them.

Currently 6,632 war veterans and 115,000 people, who served on the home front, are living in Uzbekistan.
