Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The second round of political consultations between Foreign Affairs Ministries of Uzbekistan and Malaysia were held in Kuala-Lumpur on 20 December. During event, the Uzbek side held negotiations with Malaysian side led by Secretary-General of Malaysia Foreign Ministry Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry’s press service said.

The sides exchanged opinion on current affairs and perspectives of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. In particular, the sides considered situation in Central and Southern-Western Asia. The sides discussed interaction of the countries within international organizations, including the UN and OIC, as well as establishing partnership of Uzbekistan with ASEAN and ecologic threats. The sides reviewed military-political situation in Afghanistan.

The Malaysian side supported position of Uzbekistan on conducting objective international investigation of events, which took place in southern Kyrgyzstan in June 2010.

Kuala Lumpur expressed understanding of initiative of Uzbekistan leadership on normalization of situation in Afghanistan in 6+3 format, as well as agreed with importance of solving water-energy problems in the region based on consensus, taking into account opinion and position of all countries, involved in trans-boundary problems, holding expertise with attraction of independent international experts.

The sides highly rated current state of trade-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia, perspectives of developing investment interaction.

The sides underlined that successful visits of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Malaysia in 1992 and 2005 and the visit of Malaysian Prime Ministers Mahathir Mohamad in 1993 and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2008 became milestone in deepening relations and stimulated gradual development of bilateral cooperation.

The sides noted that further organizations of visits in high level will help to lifting partnership to new level and give important impulse to establishing and developing partnership in politics, trade-economic and investment spheres.

During consultations, the sides discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The sides underlined gradual development of inter-parliamentary relations with satisfaction. Successful visits to Uzbekistan speakers of Malaysian parliament of Dato Ramli bin Hgah Talib (14-17 May 2006) and Pandikir Mulia (19-21 May 2010), as well as Speaker of Legislative Chamber Dilorom Tashmuhamedoca (April 2010) to Kuala Lumpur were also noted.

The Malaysian side also expressed gratitude for organization of study tour to Uzbekistan of the delegation of Perak Legislative Assembly led by its speaker Rumaz Bin Baharin Daud, which took place on 7-13 December.

During the negotiations, it was said that the Malaysian companies are expressing interest to participate in projects of Navoi free industrial-economic zone, power projects, expanding trade and investment cooperation. The sides expressed mutual interest in cooperation in tourism through exchange of experience and organization of internships and seminars.

In this regards, the sides noted effective work of the Uzbek-Malaysian joint trade committee, which held the second session in Tashkent on 20 October 2009.

The sides also positively rated cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Uzbekistan and Malaysia noted that holding of the third round of political consultations in Tashkent in 2011 and next session of the joint trade committee in Malaysia will be important step in diversification of economic relations and implementation of large joint projects.
