Economy 04/06/2007 Uzbekistan leases two Boeing-787s, 6 Airbus-320s

Uzbekistan Havo Yollari, Uzbekistan’s state airline, is leasing two long-distance Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft and six mid-range Airbus-320s , the airline said last week.

The airline did not name the amount of the lease. The Boeing deal is guaranteed by the Uzbek government and US Eximbank. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

The company said the first aircraft will delivered to Uzbekistan in May 2008. The Reuters reported quoting official of Uzbekistan Havo Yollari that two other aircrafts will be delivered in 2014.

It is expected that the Uzbek company plans to sign contact in June to purchase six mid-range Airbus-320s, which should be supplied in 2011-2012.

Currently, the Uzbek airline has 16 western-made aircrafts, including Boeing-767-300, Boeing-757-200, A-310 and RJ-85. Uzbekistan Havo Yollari has the same number of Soviet-made aircrafts, which will be written off soon.

In 2006, the airline transported 1.96 million passengers (against 1.66 million in 2005) and 18,100 tonnes of cargo (against 21,550 tonnes in 2005).

Uzbekistan Havo Yollari carries out regular flights to 22 cities of US, Europe, Middle East, Western and Southern-Eastern Asia, 21 cities of CIS and 11 directions within the country.
