Uzbekistan launches charity eye care campaign: 1,000 people to receive free cataract treatment
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Eye Microsurgery and the UAE-based international organization NOOR Dubai, has launched a charitable campaign to provide free surgical eye care for citizens suffering from cataracts.
According to Minister of Health Amr Khudayarov, the initiative stems from the strong friendship and mutual trust between the leadership of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized that such projects support early diagnosis and effective treatment of eye diseases while enhancing the quality of services provided by specialized medical institutions in the country.
As part of the campaign, 1,000 socially vulnerable residents from across Uzbekistan will undergo free high-tech ophthalmological screenings in Tashkent and Samarkand. Patients diagnosed with cataracts will receive phacoemulsification surgery with the implantation of an intraocular lens — the modern gold standard in cataract treatment.
The campaign is taking place from April 14 to 17 in Tashkent and from April 17 to 19 at the center’s branch in Samarkand.
All patients will also receive free post-operative medications and necessary supplies for recovery.
