Uzbekistan launches automation of water pollution monitoring
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has launched the "Automation of Surface Water Pollution Monitoring" project, aimed at improving the control and assessment of the country’s water resources.
As part of the initiative, a network of regional laboratories will be established, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of real-time water quality data collection. In cases where pollution levels exceed permissible limits, the system will enable immediate notifications to relevant authorities, according to the press service of the Zamin Foundation.
The project is being implemented under the Hydrometeorological Service Agency and covers the river basins of the Syr Darya, Amu Darya, and Zarafshan. A key component of the initiative includes training specialists and integrating advanced monitoring technologies.
A roundtable discussion was held as part of the project, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Ecology, Uzhydromet, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Ministry of Health, along with international experts from the UNECE and UNEP. Participants reviewed global best practices in water monitoring and provided recommendations for improving Uzbekistan’s water surveillance system.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Zamin Foundation, as well as international organizations UNEP and UNECE.
