Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have joined the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia.

The signing ceremony took place during the CMS COP14 session “Transboundary and regional cooperation on the conservation of migratory species in Central Asia.”

The document was signed by the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic Melis Turgunbaev, and the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurken Sharbiev.

“The memorandum stipulates the removal of obstacles to the migration of wild animals and the creation of favorable conditions for their migration from one territory to another. This will protect migrating animals and thereby preserve biodiversity. In addition, it will strengthen the unity of the Central Asian countries in this direction,” said Aziz Abdukhakimov.

The Carnivore Memorandum of Understanding is an international agreement under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals. Countries that have signed the Memorandum of Understanding are committed to taking coordinated measures and actions to achieve favorable conservation status for raptor species throughout their range and reduce their decline.
